Wabeek Club

Newly renovated Wabeek Club features a 180-acre, 6,451-yard, 18-hole golf course designed by Pete Dye and golf legend Jack Nicklaus.

The Wabeek Club, a premier private golf and resort club located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, is undergoing a sweeping transformation that includes the completion of a beautiful multi-million-dollar interior/exterior renovation, new world-class dining upgrades, premium added amenities, and a fresh approach to the country club experience driven by an executive class of new owners.

The Bloomfield Hills property, which opened as a private golf and country club at 4000 Club Gate Drive in 1972, was purchased in 2019 by a powerful group of private Detroit-based investors led by Joe Barbat, Chairman and CEO of Barbat Holdings, LLC, who most recently made news with his purchase of Detroit's historic GAR Building.

"When the chance to acquire Wabeek presented itself, I immediately thought what an amazing opportunity to develop a club for the enjoyment of our family, friends and a new generation of members," said Joe Barbat, Wabeek Club Chairman of the Board. "I recognized there was a huge gap in the country club sector and was well aware of the stigma and stiff reputations most clubs carry with them. To develop a club with exceptional cuisine and the same amenities offered by five-star resorts right here in our own backyard was an opportunity we just could not allow to pass."

The transformation at Wabeek started with a total interior renovation designed by Art Harrison Interiors. Renovation of the 45,000-square-foot clubhouse included a brand-new gym and fitness area, new locker rooms with steam showers, cold rain showers, and a sauna, new bathrooms throughout, kitchen upgrades, a full Ballroom and Dining Room makeover, new indoor Golf Simulator Room with two Trackman Golf Simulators, and the redesign and re-merchandising of the Pro Shop.

Exterior renovations included a Pool upgrade, a 2,500-square-foot outdoor patio and fire pit lounge with panoramic views of the first and 18th holes, and a second story outdoor lounge overlooking the club's private 180-acre golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye.

Wabeek also added an arcade-style Kids Room, more family-friendly activities, health and wellness amenities, integrated technology, and remote workspaces for members.

Among the club's finest new attributes is its world-class cuisine and superior beverage program featuring elevated casual and resort-style fine dining in its exclusive Tribu Mediterranean restaurant.

Future projects for the Wabeek Club include updates to the 18-hole private golf course and the on-going modernization of the club's facility, amenities, and family-centric activities.
